PAINTING THE HEAD (ONLINE COURSE)
Penn Studio School of Art
Dates: July 11 - August 8, 2023
Times: 12pm – 3 pm (Tuesdays)
Levels/Ages: This workshop is open to all levels; ages 15+
The primary focus of this class will be painting the head in oil.
Demonstrations will vary in length, from quick one-shot paintings to longer, more developed works. Both methods will prioritize establishing unique color harmonies, as well as the sitter’s individual likeness. Emphasis will be on the use of broad color spots to layout the initial composition and tonal structure, allowing for further refinement of edges and shapes as sessions progress.
COLOR AND COMPOSITION: PAINTING THE FIGURE WITH DAVID BAIRD

This class teaches students to develop an oil painting from life, with an emphasis on pictorial composition and color harmony.

Dates: March 9 - April 29, 2023
Schedule: Studio sessions will be held for 7 weeks total, Sunday – Thursday with 6 hrs life model daily, 5 days per week.
Class Size: 12 maximum + instructor(s)
2023 Spring Painting: Color to Composition is a new curriculum, available exclusively in this location, team-taught by visiting instructors Ryan WURMSER and David BAIRD.
Students will pursue a creative, practical curriculum in perceptual color, color theory, the abstract elements of design and of pictorial composition, painting the human figure in a studio environment 24-30 hours/week.
